Jorge R. Alvear, M.D.
Dr. Alvear joins us from the Gwinnett area, where he brings nearly 20 years of experience as a board-certified Pain Management specialist. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida with a major in Microbiology and later completed his medical degree at George Washington University. Upon graduation, Dr. Alvear became an Intern at the Washington Hospital Center and was accepted into George Washington University’s Anesthesiology residency program. He completed his fellowship at the University of Utah in 2001.
Dr. Alvear began his medical career working as a Labor and Delivery Anesthesiologist for several years at the Brandon Medical Center and then subsequently at Palmetto General Hospital in Florida. He then transferred to Meridian Pain and Diagnostics, where he practiced as a Pain Management physician before moving to Georgia in 2002 to join the Gwinnet Medical Center Anesthesiology and Pain Management Center. Dr. Alvear became board certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology in 1997 and was board certified in Pain Management in 2001. Dr. Alvear was recertified in the practice of Pain Medicine in 2012 and holds medical licenses in both Georgia and Washington state.
Dr. Alvear specializes in various aspects of pain management, including cancer pain, nonsurgical treatment of spinal pain, as well as genicular nerve blocks for chronic extremity pain. Dr. Alvear practices in our Sandy Springs location.
